West Elm Room On Sale

West Elm recently sent out an email blast advertising their summer sale so I (of course) perused the sale items. I was pleasantly surprised at what was there and the deep discounts you can get when they mark things on clearance. In fact, I was able to put together an entire bedroom concept for under $1,500 using mostly sale items.

Take a look!

And in case you are wondering, here's the breakdown:

Queen Bed Frame - $479.99
Queen Quilt - $99.99
Standard Shams (2) - $33.98
Euro Shams (2) - $39.98
5x8 Rug - $199.99
Chair - $149
Throw Pillows (2) - $34.98
84" Drapes (2) - $49.98
Candlesticks (1 of each) - $47.97
Table (not on sale) - $199
Owl Lamp (not on sale) - $99

Grand Total = $1,452.89!

Happy Friday!

Why didn't I think of that?

I have a ton of these little white milk glass vases in various shapes and sizes left over from our wedding that I am slowly selling online. (Yes still selling stuff from the wedding! Yikes!)

Today I came across an adorable Bachelorette Party Shoot on 100 Layer Cake where they used some of the very same vases and added a layer of paint to change them up.

Why didn't I think of that?!! What a great idea. All you'd need is paint good for glass or ceramic and you can easily change the color of just about anything. Genius! I may just be keeping a few more of our left overs for myself afterall!

Happy Monday!

Making Changes

Lately I've got the decorating bug again and I've been re-doing rooms in our house by changing and mixing up accessories. I'd of course love all new everything, but having just paid for a wedding (!!!), that's not happening any time soon!

So, I got a cool new print on canvas for our living room from World Market and I love all of the colors and the eclectic design. It has the red-orange and olive green of our existing sofa and drapes, but also varying shades of blue, green, red and even teal (one of the colors that I've been wanting to introduce into our home for a long time!).

Momentary Canvas by World Market
I'm thinking I may frame it in a cool, rustic wood frame down the road, but for now it's hangin' naked above our sofa!

Next I'm starting to hunt for cool accent pillows to tie the sofa, drapes and new frames (stay tuned for a glimpse of these soon) all together.

Z Gallerie has a bunch that are totally gorgeous and along the lines of what I'm looking for. Here are a few of my faves:

I'll keep you posted as I get more done so you can see how everything comes together.

Organize Your Accessories

One of my favorite sections in the blog Adventures in Renovating a Brooklyn Limestone, is the section called "Steal This Idea". Part of why we read design blogs is to get inspiration for our own homes, projects, cooking, etc, right? (Well, at least that's why I read them anyway.)

A while back I was visiting my good friend Brittany from "For The Love of Gold" and she had the best DIY solution for organizing her jewelry hanging in her room. Needless to say, I went home and stole that idea! It's a super simple idea really, yet so functional and totally easy to do.

All you need is a cork board and some thumb tacks and you're on your way to an accessory organizing solution that I think you'll love.

Check it out:
You can hang earrings, necklaces and even bracelets on the thumb tacks and they stay organized in pairs and don't get tangled up the way they do in the typical jewelry boxes you find in stores. Plus it's kind of a cool way to create a little vanity area in your bedroom and have your accessories out on display.

I hung mine above my dresser, added a small mirror, candle and grandma's jewelry box for rings, watches and post earrings. The whole project cost me less than $20!

What do you think?

(Oh, and BTW, if you  aren't already reading the two blogs I mentioned above, you should be! Check them out.)

Wake Up Frankie

I've spent a lot of time recently searching for black and white boudoir-esk decor and in doing so, came across this awesome website called Wake Up Frankie. Okay, I know what you're thinking, it's totally geared toward tweens, but hey it's full of fun, flirty, girly furniture, bedding and accessories and a good find is a good find!

Check out a few of my favorite pieces:

By far the coolest thing about the chandeliers above is that they plug into a wall socket.  So, no hard wiring necessary!  Finally a chandelier option for us renters!
